Carnival Season in Louisiana

Thursday, January 21, 2010

Fes.ti.val, noun. \ˈfes-tə-vəl\, an event usually and ordinarily staged by a local community centered on some unique aspect of that community.

One thing that there is no short of here in New Orleans and southern Louisiana is a good Festival. So I have begun highlighting a Festival {or two, or three} each month- see the sidebar to the left. This month and next are pretty much designated solely to one of the quintessential Louisiana celebrations- Mardi Gras. Beginning in March, we'll start to see some other really great festivals, both large & small, out there... so stay tuned!

Off the beaten path, be sure to check out these small town Mardi Gras celebrations. I have done both for many, many years and they are not to be missed. So grab your rubber boots, sunglasses & a koozie and head out of the big City for a true Cajun experience-
