Breaux Bridge, Louisiana

Thursday, March 18, 2010

I spent this past Saturday in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, otherwise known as 'One of America's Top 10 Coolest Small Towns.' I met up with a couple of long-time girlfriends- First stop, champagne & Zydeco Breakfast at Cafe Des Amis. When we walked in, the place was alive- folks eating, zydeco band playing & a packed dance-floor. It's moments like this that make me realize how good it is to be back in southern Louisiana. We grabbed a table, and as we were too busy gabbing & catching up we had the waitress order for us. First came the Oreille de Couchon {boudin stuffed beignets}, and then the dish of Grilled Biscuits topped with crawfish etouffe & crawfish au gratin with a side of andouille grits... And more champagne. In the words written on the wall of the cafe- "Cafe Des Amis makes my stomach smile." After breakfast, we headed out for a bit shopping at the antique shops & boutiques nearby. I racked up on monogrammed linen coasters {$7} and a set of 8 white linen embroidered table cloths {$25}. Oh, how I love small town shopping. So grab the girlfriends, the family, the kids, you name it, and spend a day exploring the small town of Breaux Bridge. It's just a cool little town.

An added bonus for me is that my pops lives there... so after a great morning with friends, I headed to spend the rest of the day with family... flying kites, picking flowers and eating dad's good cookin'. It just doesn't get much better than that folks.
